The Importance of Skin Research

January 19, 2017

Hello Sweeties! This week I thought I would have a little chat with you guys about skin issues and the importance of skin research if you're on the journey of clearing your skin. Skin conditions of any sort can really lower your self-esteem, whether it's a breakout of white heads or acne scarring. I did a post around skin confidence back in August 2016 (Spots and Self-esteem - see that post here), and I wanted to do another chatty style post around skincare.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SKIN RESEARCH

When you have a skin condition it can feel like it's never going to get better, and it's so easy to fall into the negativity trap and get really frustrated when your skin doesn't clear up. I think it's so important for anyone wanting to clear their skin to really research and analyse any potential issues before shoving every "clearing" product you can find onto your face. Of course the easiest way to avoid wasting time and money on trial-and-error products would be to see a dermatologist, but for many skin can be successfully cleared without countless skin appointments as long as you do your research.

Read books, read blogs, read online articles. Researching a variety of sources allows you to gain a wider understanding of your skin condition. When I first started getting breakouts I read a lot of blogs and articles to try and understand what my skin was doing. I learnt about face mapping and that where your breakouts appear can help you determine the possible causes, ranging from hormonal spots to breakouts caused by your diet.

My favourite sites:

www.reviews.com

www.reviews.com is one of the most helpful websites I've ever come across. They post articles offering research and reviews on a huge range of products, and their recent article on The Best Acne Treatments (read it here) really stood out to me. The article highlighted a variety of products they found to be the best at clearing acne, while also giving in depth information from qualified dermatologists about treatment of acne in general. The article talked about a range of acne severity which made it a lot easier to understand which products may be suited to me and my skin type as I have mild breakouts that are usually hormonal. Although there are a lot of skin conditions out there acne is by far the most common, so I think anyone suffering with any severity of acne needs to check this post out!

www.fromroses.co.uk

I've spoke about From Roses a few times on my blog because she really is one of my favourite bloggers. She posts quite a lot about skincare and I find her posts really helpful. She often chats about her top clearing products and treatments, and after reading her posts I always feel a more positive and confident in my own skin.

Youtubers in general:

I love watching youtubers all round, but I find watching skincare videos can make you feel very inspired. There's something about seeing someone say the words to your face (even if through a screen) that makes me feel a lot more inspired and really take their skincare advice into account. Often yutube videos based around skincare will include videos of how they use the products which can also be useful when trying to clear up your skin.

MY SKIN - A QUICK UPDATE

Skin research has played such a huge part in my skin clearing journey. Taking the time to learn about my skin and why it behaves as it does has made me feel so much more positive and actually made a change in my skin. My skin is so much clearer than it was a couple of months ago, it's not exactly where I want it to be just yet but it's a lot better than it was, and I'm very thankful for that! If you guys would like to see a skincare routine for day or night plus a longer post about how I've cleared my skin let me know and I'll be sure to do that in the near future.

QUICK THANK YOU

I wanted to give a quick thank you to the lovely people over at www.reviews.com who reached out to me and inspired me to do this post. I totally believe that 2017 will be a year for me to be more comfortable in my skin, and hopefully this post will inspire you to feel the same!

What are your thoughts on skin research?
